Leap Into February 29th With A Leap Day Celebration At Barefoot Landing

Posted in Special Events

Ahhh Leap Day, that extra day added to the calendar every four years. Why you ask? It was added as a corrective measure because the Earth does not orbit the sun in precisely 365 days. So every four years we get an extra day to enjoy and celebrate. And celebrate is exactly what we plan to do this Leap Day at Barefoot Landing with the first ever Leap Frog 5K & Oyster Roast!

The day begins with the Leap Frog 5K and one mile Fun Run at 9 a.m. Runners will take their marks in front of Lucy Buffett's LuLu's and will follow a scenic course throughout Barefoot Landing. With an awards ceremony following.

After the run, stick around for an Oyster Roast along the lawn in Dockside Village from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Savor the flavor of local oysters while enjoying a beer…or two. Of course, if a Bloody Mary is more in tune with your taste buds, our friends at LuLu's will have a Bloody Mary special perfect for pairing with your oysters.

While oysters will be the star of the show, they aren't the only fare available. A variety of other food vendors will be onsite with various snacks, confections and beverages for sale. In addition, retail and artisan vendors plus face painting and balloon artists will be part of the festivities.

No Oyster Roast is complete without live music! Pull up a chair while enjoying a bite and a brew for The Reggie Sullivan Band at 11 a.m., followed by Walker Godwin Trio at 1:30 p.m. Both performing on the Crooked Hammock Brewery stage.

Saturday, February 29th, or Leap Day as many call it, is sure to be a shucking good time this year at Barefoot Landing during the Leap Frog 5K & Oyster Roast!
