Adopt a duck or group of ducks to enter into the Paws Across the Water Duck Race to benefit the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach. Adoption papers are available at Barefoot Landing merchants, local merchants in the area, the North Myrtle Beach Humane Society and the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce or on-line at www.humanesocietynmb.org. Activities begin at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 11. Food, music, vendors and other festivities will take place throughout the day. A business duck race will take place before the actual Duck Derby. Prizes for winning adopted ducks include a $2,500 gift card from Murray Law Offices, PA and a weekend package including three night stay, dinner and a show. Come join the fun and help the animals of the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach!

The American Cancer Society, Barefoot Landing, the Artist’s Roundtable and Alabama Theatre invite you to “FLOCK THIS WAY”.  They plan on putting this October in the Pink!  October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Barefoot Landing has made plans to “PINK OUT”!

 The festivities begin on October 1^st   with Barefoot Landing merchants showing their pink.  Many businesses will be displaying their support by offering specials and of course PINK will be everywhere!

 Oct. 1-15 “Pink Your Flamingo” yard art created by local artists (and amateurs) will be on display throughout the center.  All patrons are invited to vote for their favorite flamingo.  Maps of where each flamingo is located and vote casting will be available at the Welcome Center.  There will be an adult vote and a kid’s vote so every person in the entire family’s vote matters!  The top 5 Flamingos from the voting will then proceed to the final “Celebrity Judging” at the Alabama Theatre to determine the winner.  All flamingos will then be available for donation at a live auction.

 Make sure to “Flock” to Barefoot, Oct. 16^th, for its first annual “FLOCK WALK”.  The walk is to demonstrate our commitment to Breast Cancer Awareness and to finding the Cure.  Registration will begin at 8:30am and the walk will begin at 10:00am.  Early registration will begin on Sept. 1:  Adults $20 and $10 for children 12 and under.  Registration the day of event will be $25 for adults and $15 for children.  Beginning Sept. 1, you may register by going to the Barefoot Landing office (M-F, 8:30am-5:30pm) or by calling the American Cancer Society office at 843-213-0333 (M-F, 8am-5pm).  Registration will include a free “Flock Walk 2010” t-shirt (day of event) while supplies last.  The walk will begin and end at Alabama Theatre.  On your return to Alabama Theatre there will be a “Flock Party” and it will be immediately followed by the “Pink Your Flamingo” finals and live auction.  All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of North Myrtle Beach/Little River and Breast Cancer Research.
